본 연구는 지난 글로벌 금융위기 극복과정에서 제기된 문제의 일환인 스타 애널리스트에 대한 과다보상 문제를단순 개인의 기여수준이 아니라 조직의 규모에 따른 개인의 기여수준 고찰이라는 측면에서 이론 및 실증분석을수행하였다. 이론 모형 분석 결과 한 명의 스타 애널리스트가 개별 수준에서 다른 평범한 애널리스트에 비해개인적 수준에서는 능력이 높다는 점이 인정되는 상황이라 하더라도, 조직 입장에서는 복수의 평범한 애널리스트를 고용하는 것이 더 나은 경우가 발생한다는 것을 보였다. 이와 같이 이론에서 도출된 가설을 검증하기위해 국내 베스트 애널리스트 및 소속 증권회사 자료를 기반으로 실증분석을 수행한 결과, 스타 애널리스트가기본적으로 조직의 성과와 양(+)의 관계를 나타내는 반면, 그 영향은 조직의 규모가 커짐에 따라 작아지는것으로 나타나 이론에서 도출된 가설을 일부 지지하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 국내 증권업계에서는 조직규모를 고려할 때 스타 애널리스트가 전반적인 회사 수익성에 미치는 영향이 다소 제한적일 수 있음을 시사한다고볼 수 있다.
Abstract
This study both theoretically and empirically analyzes the so-called, “overcompensation problem” for star analysts, one of the main issues raised during the global financial crisis of 07-08, in the consideration of individual contribution levels in proportion to the size of their organization, not just individual contribution levels. As a result, although theoretically recognized that a single star analyst is more capable than another at the personal level, it has shown that hiring multiple, ordinary analysts would be better for the overall organization. On the other hand, the empirical analysis using the Korean securities companies’ data and best analysts’ selections by two economic newspapers shows that while star analysts basically show a positive (+) effect on the organization's performance, the magnitude of the impact decreases as the size of the organization grows, showing that it supports some of the hypotheses derived from the theory. This finding could suggest that in the Korean securities industry, star analysts' impact on the overall company’s profitability is somewhat limited when considering the size of the organization.
