중국 상장기업의 사회적 책임 이행 동인: 중앙-지방의 정치적 신호, 국제사회의 압력을 중심으로

중국기업의 사회적 책임 이행 동인은 무엇인가? 본 연구는 국제사회의 압력과 국가의 정치적 신호가 기업의 사회적 책임 이행에 미치는 영향에 주목했다. 특히 글로벌 시장에서의 달라진 정당성 환경이 사회적 책임 이행으로 이어지는지를 확인했고, 국가의 정치적 신호를 중앙 및 지방 수준으로 구분했다. 상해 및 심천거래소 상장기업 전체를 대상으로 하는 허쉰왕 사회적 책임 평가지표를 종속변수로 선정해서 기업 시계열 자료와 결합해서 패널 자료를 구성했다. 2010년부터 2016년까지 2,506개 기업의 14,497건의 패널데이터에 대한 임의효과 순서형 로짓분석 결과 글로벌 변수의 효과는 미미했다. 국가-기업 관계 변수 가운데 소유구조 및 중앙정부와의 인적 연계는 기업의 사회적 책임 이행을 촉진했지만, 지방정부와의 인적 연계는 영향을 미치지 못했다. 이러한 결론은 국가의 정치적 신호가 중국기업의 사회적 책임 이행의 동인이라는 기존 연구 결과를 지지하는 동시에, 기업에 미치는 중앙 및 지방 수준의 영향력의 차이를 고려해야 한다는 이론적 함의를 드러낸다.
Abstract
What accounts for the implementation of corporate social responsibility in China? This article investigates to what extent the implementation of corporate social responsibility in China is attributable to world cultural pressure and political embeddedness. In an attempt to answer the questions raised, we combined the Hexunwang’s CSR rating with companies’ time-series data. The random-effects ordered logit model was applied for the panel data from 2010 to 2016 for 2,506 listed companies in China. The results show that the variables derived from political embeddedness account have more explanatory power, especially not at the local level but central level connections. This article provides a theoretical contribution to understanding corporate social responsibility in China with a nuanced understanding of central and local factors involving state-business relations.
