A Typology of the Millennial Generation - Organizational Identification and Growth Need Perspectives -

As the size and importance of the millennial generation grows in organizations, research has continuously paid attention to analyze their characteristics which are different from previous generation. Interests in the millennial generation have been rising in South Korea as well. However, previous studies presents so different characteristics of millennials respectively that it is critical to capture characteristics of the millennial generation more closely by systematically organizing extant studies. Based on social identity theory and social exchange theory, this study presents a typology including four types of millennial generation based on the two axes of ‘self-centered / organization-centered’ and ‘fixed mindset / growth mindset’, which leads to integrate various characteristics of the millennial generation. Finally, theoretical and practical implications of research and the direction of future research are proposed.
