The Relationship of the Residents’ Tourism Impact Perception and Destination Social Responsibility

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between residents’ perceptions of tourism impacts and destination social responsibility. A total of 280 residents living in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province were surveyed and finally 237 samples were analyzed by multiple regression analysis for this study. The findings are as follow. First, it was found that the destination social responsibility is not affected by the positive perception of tourism impact. Second, the negative perception of tourism impact influences the destination social responsibility, especially negative environmental perception. Finally, it is identified that local residents are dissatisfied with the environmental impact of tourism development. And this research is distinguished from preceding studies in that it attempted to investigate the entire tourism destination(Jeju) not the individual corporate. The result suggest that it is important for sustainable destination social responsibility policy and strategy to increase the residents’ positive perception and reduce the negative perception of tourism impacts.
