기업 기술혁신전략 활동이 혁신 및 재무성과와 고용에 미치는 영향

Technological Innovation is a strategic management activity as one of the competitive strategies. In this paper, the mediating effect of technology innovation and financial performance on between firms’ technological innovation activity and the growth of employment is examined. I used two-stage least squares estimation(2SLS) and instrumental variable legitimately with 878 Korean manufacturing firms. The findings indicated that technological competitiveness strategy improved innovation and financial performance and contributed to employment growth. On the other hand, cost competitiveness strategy, like the technological competitiveness strategy, contributed to growth of innovation and financial performance, but employment growth is only mediated by financial performance. In addition, I conducted the split sample analysis using Revised Pavitt taxonomy that reflect each different firm and industry-specific innovation strategy. I find that supplier dominated industries increased the employment through improvement of innovation performance by cost competitiveness strategy, while scale and information intensive industries through improvement of financial performance by technological competitiveness strategy. I enrich this nascent perspective by developing a mediating role of innovation and financial performance framework that enhances employment growth. And this study extends recent efforts to understand more fully the effect of technological Innovation strategy on the employment.
