기업역량과 외부협력이 벤처기업 조기 국제화에 미치는 영향 : 창업자 관련 산업 경험의 조절 효과

Extant studies on internationalization in the early stages of ventures have investigated the impact of various firm competences such as technology, network, and marketing, and show that if firm competences are insufficient, external collaboration can be used to compensate for the ventures' early internationalization. However, external collaboration entails considerable cost and effort as it exposes to the opportunistic behavior of the partner. Therefore, this study examines the cases in which external collaboration can be effectively performed. Specifically, we investigate the moderating effect of the founder's experience in the related industry before starting a venture, since the founder accumulates the necessary human network and knowledge through experience. For empirical analysis, this study examines 1,065 ventures in the early stage. As a result, the level of firm competence of a venture has a positive effect on early internationalization, and as the scope of external collaboration of the venture increases, the relationship between firm competence and the likelihood of early internationalization weakens. However, if the founder has much experience in related industries before starting the venture, the negative interaction effect between external collaboration and firm competence on the early internationalization weakens.
