RCEP 서명에 따른 CPTPP와의 협정문 주요 내용 비교 분석

After seven years of negotiations, Korea finally signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) on November 15 2020. The RCEP, with 15 countries including Korea, China, Japan, ten ASEAN countries, Australia and New Zealand as members, is the largest free trade agreement in the world, accounting for 30% of global GDP and 28.7% of trade volume. However, there is a huge free trade agreement called CPTPP in addition to RCEP around Korea. Korea has not yet joined the CPTPP. Considering the impact on the economy in Korea, where trade accounts for 63.1% of Korea's total GDP, it can be said that content analysis and response to the CPTPP is necessary. Along with this, as Biden's Democratic Party candidate was elected in the recent US presidential election held on November 3rd, changes in US trade policy are predicted. The fact that Biden-elect has made a presentation respecting free tradeism and multilateralism is a factor that increases the possibility of US participation in CPTPP in the future. In this study, under the rapidly changing international economic environment which Korea signed the RCEP recently and Biden-elect was decided, by analysing the main contents of the RCEP agreement and the CPTPP agreement, and the differences between the two agreements, I want to improve understanding on international economic laws closely related to Korea. In addition, it analyzes the impact of joining RCEP and not joining CPTPP on Korea, respectively, and suggests strategies for responding to which position we will take on the CPTPP agreement in the future.
