디자인 박물관 전시의 특징과 구성요소

19세기 후반에 시작된 장식미술 박물관에서의 디자인 전시와 20세기 초반에 시작된 현대 미술관에서의 디자인 전시는 공예품이나 미술품처럼 디자인의 시각적 이미지를 전시하는 데에 초점이 맞춰졌다. 하지만 1989년에 문을 연 런던 디자인 박물관에서는 생산과 소비과정에서 나타나는 디자인의 특징도 보여주는 전시가 시도되었다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 여러 측면에서의 디자인의 특징들이 잘 나타나는 전시를 체계적으로 파악하기 위해 디자인 전시에서 관람객이 인식할 수 있는 디자인의 형태, 기능, 제작, 유행의 관점에서 디자인 박물관 전시의 구성요소를 가설로 제시했다. 그리고 이 가설을 단계 측정표로 만들어 2000년 이후에 설립되거나 개보수 이후에 공개된 런던 디자인 박물관의 상설전시와 파리 장식미술 박물관의 현대/동시대 디자인 전시실, 뮌헨 모던 피나코텍의 뉴 컬렉션디자인 박물관, 밀라노의 이탈리아 디자인 박물관의 상설전시를 측정하고 비교하여 디자인의 특징을 잘 보여주는 디자인 박물관의 전시에 대해 논의하였다.
Abstract
Design exhibitions at the Museum of Decorative Art and Museum of Modern Art, which opened in the late 19th century and early 20th century, focused on displaying visual images. However, others like the Design Museum, which opened in London 1989, have attempted to show the design characteristics of production and consumption processes. In this study, the components of the Design Museum exhibitions were hypothesized in terms of form, function, fabrication, and fashion of design. The hypothesis was used to test the design exhibition components of the Design Museum in London, the Museum of Decorative Art in Paris, the Neue Sammlung and the Museo del Design Italiano. The permanent exhibitions of these design museums are examined to measure the components of design exhibitions.
