벤처기업의 연구개발투자가 일자리창출에 미치는 효과 분석

Unemployment of South Korea is the most severe since currency crisis in 1998. The government, which is focusing on creating jobs, drives various policies but fundamental policies are needed at this point. Recently, the contribution of venture enterprises’ creating jobs is 8.1%, which is higher than major or small-and-medium size enterprises. The effects of venture enterprises’ R&D on employment are crucial since venture enterprises involve innovation and development. Furthermore, the growth rate of venture enterprises’ R&D is 18.6%, which is higher than major or small-and-medium size enterprises as well. Generally, the effects of R&D on employment are ambiguous because of the relative effect of substitution and compensation effect. Especially, in case of risk-taking enterprises for innovation, there exists both positive and negative effects since there are high possibility to fail. This study analyzes the effects of Daejeon venture enterprises’ R&D using panel data. We found that the per capita R&D of venture enterprises has a positive effect on employment. R&D of venture enterprises in Daejeon has a positive effect on labor productivity. The growth of venture enterprises is important for both innovation and creating jobs. Therefore, the policy for R&D expansion is needed.
