해외진출기업의 글로벌 가치사슬 참여형태에 따른 성과 분석
Performance Analysis of Korean Overseas Companies Based on the Form of Participation in Global Value Chain

초록
한국은 높은 글로벌 가치사슬(Global Value Chain, GVC) 참여율을 보이고 있으며, 금융위기 이후 진행되고 있는GVC의 구조 변화는 한국 경제에 매우 중요한 이슈이다. GVC 재편에 적절한 대응이 요구되며 이를 위해서는 GVC에 참여한 기업의 현황 및 성과 파악이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 한국 기업의 글로벌 생산 네트워크 현황, 현지 진출기업들의 가치사슬 참여 형태, 현지 기업과 모기업의 조달 및 수출 방식 등이 해외진출기업의 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고 이에 기반한 정책적 시사점 도출을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 대한무역투자진흥공사(KOTRA)가2016년과 2020년 현지 진출기업 대상 조사자료를 사용하였다. 분석 결과 다국적 기업에의 납품, 부품 및 원재료 등 가치사슬 전방 참여가 현지 진출기업의 성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기업 레벨의 미시적 자료로 해외 진출기업의 다양한 GVC 참여 형태를 고려하였으며, 도출된 시사점은 향후 GVC 재편에 대응하기 위한 관련산업정책 수립에 활용될 수 있다.
Abstract
Korea has a higher participation rate of global value chain (GVC) than other countries, and the recent change in GVC since the financial crisis is a significant issue for the Korean economy. An appropriate response to the GVC reorganization is required, and it is necessary to first understand the current state and performance of GVC participating companies. Therefore, this study analyzes types of GVC participation of Korean overseas companies and the performance, and then it aims to propose policy implications for GVC participation strategies. For this, we used a survey of local companies in the year of 2016 and 2020 conducted by Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). As a result of the analysis, we found that the thrid-country procurement and export of overseas Korean companies, multinational enterprises delivery, and the forward participation in the value chain such as parts and raw materials have positive effects on the performance of the Korean overseas companies. The results of this study and derived implications can be referred to when developing industrial policies to support GVC entry of small and medium-sized companies.
