초록
최근 전 세계적으로 ESG에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 코로나19 사태 이후 사회 전 분야에서 패러다임 전환이 이루어지면서 ESG 경영이 더욱 가속화될 것으로 전망된다. 본 연구에서는 ESG의 개념을 이해하고 ESG가 사회 및 기업에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 선행 연구를 검토하였다. 또한 글로벌 ESG 추진 현황 및 해외 주요 기업의 실제 ESG 경영 사례 분석을 통해 향후 국내에서 준비와 대응에 있어 필요한 과제와 시사점을 제시하고 있다. ESG가 우리 사회의 지속가능한 성장을 가지고 오며, 기업의 장기적인 수익창출에도 영향을 미친다는 연구결과들을 확인하였다. 특히 해외 기업의 사례를 보면 ESG 경영활동이 해당 기업의 단기적인 수익뿐만 아니라 장기적인 존속에도 중요한 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 향후 글로벌 ESG 기준 강화가 지속될 것으로 예상되므로 국내에서도 ESG 정보공개, 책임투자, ESG 인증 등과 관련하여 보다 효과적인 대응체계에 대한 연구가 필요한 시점이다.
Abstract
There has recently been a growing interest in ESG worldwide. ESG is expected to accelerate further as a paradigm shift after the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, prior studies were reviewed to examine the concept of ESG and the impact of ESG on society. In addition, the study presented the agenda and implications by analyzing the current status of global ESG implementations and actual ESG management cases of major overseas companies. It was confirmed from the research results that ESG brings sustainable growth to our society and also affects long-term profit creation of companies. In particular, it was confirmed from the cases of overseas companies that ESG management activities can have a significant impact not only on short-term profits but also on long-term survival of the companies. With the expected strengthening trend of the global ESG standards continued in the future, More research is needed to prepare a more effective response system in relation to ESG information disclosure, responsible investment, and ESG certification in Korea.
