‘노동학’이란 무엇인가? - 학문적 지향, 구성 체계, 연구 방법 -

초록
현대 사회가 직면하고 있는 노동문제는 중층적이고 복합적이다. 디지털 전환과 4차 산업혁명 시대의 도래는 노동의 종말이라는 어두운 전망과 함께 점차 소수의 양질 일자리와 다수의 불안정하고 질 낮은 일자리를 양산하고 있다. 이 시론에서는 디지털 전환과정에서 나타나고 있는 노동의 위기, 사회 불평등과 양극화 문제 등 현재 우리 사회가 당면한 노동문제 해결을 모색하기 위한 새로운 학문 패러다임으로서 ‘노동학(laborology)’을 설정한다. 노동학은 현대 자본주의 사회에서 나타나고 있는 노동 이슈에 관한 총체적 학문이라고 할 수 있다. 노동학은 경제학, 정치학, 사회학, 법학, 경영학, 심리학 등 한 특정 분야에 대한 이론 및 방법론적 연구를 넘어 인공지능(AI)과 사물인터넷(IoT), 로봇 등 자연과학과 공학 연구까지 포괄함으로써 디지털 전환과 노동의 변화에 대한 분석과 문제해결을 지향하는 학제적 융합학문의 성격을 갖는다. 노동학은 노동 현장과 현실 사회에서 직면하는 다양한 문제해결 방안을 삶의 현장에서 찾는 실천 지향의 현장학인 동시에 더 나은 사회를 만들어가기 위한 가치지향적인 인간학의 위상을 갖는다. 또한 노동학은 개인적 이해관계를 초월한 보편적 사회 가치와 책임을 지향하는 공공성에 기초함으로써 학계뿐만 아니라 일반 시민까지 포함하는 현실 노동세계를 위한 ‘성찰적’ 학문으로서 공공학의 성격을 띤다. 한국사회의 노동 현실 속에서 노동학은 양적 또는 질적 방법론을 동시에 고려할 뿐만 아니라 역사적 비교라는 연구 방법을 통해 더 나은 노동 사회와 좋은 일자리, 더 좋은 민주주의, 인간의 본질적 활동으로서 노동 가치와 인간의 존엄성이 존중받는 보다 나은 인간사회 건설을 지향하는 미래학이다.
Abstract
The labor problems facing modern society are multi-layered and complex. Digital transformation and the advent of the 4th industrial revolution era produce a small number of decent jobs and many unstable and low-quality jobs with the dark prospect of the end of labor. This study suggests ‘laborology’ as a new academic paradigm to seek solutions to the current labor problems facing our society, such as labor crisis, social inequality, and polarization in the process of digital transformation. Laborology can be said to be a totalistic and comprehensive study on labor issues appearing in modern capitalist society. Laborology goes beyond theoretical and methodological studies in one specific field such as economics, political science, sociology, law, business administration, and psychology and encompasses natural science and engineering research such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and robots. It has the character of an interdisciplinary convergence study in which it is problem-oriented, seeking to solve problems resulting in digital transformation and labor changes. Laborology is a public policy study and a practice-oriented field study that finds ways to solve various workplace and real social problems and improve society. It also has a characteristic of a value-oriented human study. Laborology is a public study as a ‘reflective’ knowledge for the real world of work, including academia and the general public. It is based on publicness that aims for universal social values and responsibilities that transcend individual interests. Laborology analyzes the labor reality of Korean society through the research method of historical comparison and quantitative or qualitative methodologies. Finally, it is a kind of futurology that aims for a better working society, good jobs, better democracy, and the construction of a better human society in which the value of labor as an essential human activity and human dignity is respected.
