부동산 불평등과 양극화 사회-불로소득 추구 ‘기회’의 평등화

This paper diagnoses why the Moon Jae-In government’s policy to suppress rising real estate prices, including housing prices, has failed. Existing research on taxation and housing supply policies simply assesses the strengths and weaknesses of specific short-term measures. However, we must critically analyze how financialized capitalism frames our society and people’s mentalities, normalizing its principles of competitiveness and a winner-take-all attitude. This paper explores the collective mentality of Korean society in which speculative behaviors prevail, naming this tendency the ‘equalization of the opportunities for seeking unearned incomes’. This paper considers how a society in which unearned incomes are accepted as desirable depreciates the value of labor, and thus erodes the social foundation for survival. It also underscores how such a collective mentality fundamentally deviates from the philosophical liberalism justifying capitalism. 21 st -century neoliberal capitalism faces financial, pandemic, and climate crises, and these events have exposed both its internal and external limits . These crises require us to radically change the mode of production, circulation, consumption and distribution. Unfortunately, an effect of the equalization of the opportunities for seeking unearned incomes and rent is to deter possible responses to them, and to block a shift to an alternative society. In this context, this paper’s raises the question of where a politics of historical shift should begin.
