음악대학 캡스톤 디자인 수업모형 개발

The purpose of this study is to discuss the necessity of introducing a capstone design curriculum and propose an instruction model for music major students. Universities have been changing how they nurture talented people to meet the demands of the society. Capstone design courses that link academic study with the workplace are actively offered in various majors for several reasons. First, capstone design is a team-based project that solves social problems/tasks on the basis of fundamental knowledge learned through undergraduate courses. Thus, it helps cultivate highly qualified people through integrated thinking. Second, capstone design helps students understand the business environment during undergraduate study. Music major students rarely meet employees in their business field because of the various limitations of their curriculum. With the capstone design course, students can experience business through internships and projects with companies. It can reduce the gap between academe and workplace and enable the students to apply their business skills and build a career immediately after graduation. In addition, they can improve their working skills through community engagement projects or internships. Third, it is difficult to educate music major students on a career management course because the educational goal of universities is focused on nurturing performers; accordingly, most of the curriculum is unrelated to employment but concerns training performers. Capstone design course can develop a broader perspective on career development through managing projects with business workers and collaborating with local organizations.
