近代 轉換期 ‘國家’ 槪念의 變化에 대한 考察 - 『萬國公法』의 受容을 中心으로

The purpose of this article is to examine the change in the perception of the concept of ‘nation’ in Joseon in the process of seeking national identity while accepting the 『萬國公法』. Recognition of the concept of ‘nation’ is connected to the national identity of the time, and the national identity of Joseon changed significantly during the transition of modern times by accepting the ‘national public law’ that became the base of modern international law. Therefore, it is necessary not only to examine the political and social background of Joseon at the time when it was accepted, but also by examining what kind of country Joseon was aiming for at the time, that is, what kind of identity it was trying to establish as a nation. We will be able to better understand the concept of ‘nation’. To do this, we examined the change in the concept of ‘nation’ in Western society and the nature of the ‘national public law’ on the Chapter II. And we also examined the characteristics of the traditional international order in East Asia before the adoption of the ‘Public Law of All Nations’ and examines how it affected the perception of a nation on the Chapter Ⅲ. In the transition period of modern times, the intellectuals of Joseon experienced the ‘public law of all nations’ and tried to understand the new international order while maintaining the traditional historical order. It was also recognized that it was necessary to incline, but this new movement was due to a change in the concept of ‘nation’.
