소상공인 과밀의 계측방법과 과밀기준의 적정성에 관한 탐색적 연구

"The purpose of this paper is to study how to select the excessively competitive industries in korean micro enterprise sector. The previous studies show that excessive competition is a phenomenon resulting from excess supply, in other words, overcapacity in an industry. In an excessively competitive industry, economic profit calculated by subtracting opportunity cost from accounting profit goes under the zero point. Nevertheless, the product of this industry is supplied continuously. In this paper, we suggest the average operating profit as a primary index to measure the level of excess competition and propose the average labour wage in the same industry, that is, opportunity cost or the minimum living cost as a criterion index of excess competition. By the way, Statistics Korea supplies the data on operating profit as accounting profit from the quinquennial survey. Hence, more easily or often using data to evaluate excess competition in an industry, we suggest alternatively secondary indices such as the number of micro enterprises, the ratio of micro enterprises to total enterprises and etc. The results of empirical test by correlation analysis show that the proper alternative index of average operating profit is the ratio of micro enterprises to total enterprises in the same industry."
