한부모 이주여성의 가족해체와 자립 과정에 대한 연구: 자립지원시설에서의 경험을 중심으로

The number of multicultural families has increased rapidly in Korea since the mid-1990s due to international marriages. Recently, the number of divorces in multicultural families have been consistently increasing in Korea. The study focuses on examining how living in a self-reliance facility affects the lives of immigrant single mothers, through a qualitative case study. The data collection method consisted of in-depth interviews with six immigrant single mothers living in the facility. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Decisions ofinternational m arriage; m igration t o K orean s ociety; 2 ) F amily life; Power imbalance; 3) Family breakdown; Helpless immigrant women; 4) Formation of a single-parent family; Enhancement of competency and begin ning of independence by living in the facility. The participants of the study were divorced from their husbands due to violence and joined a self-reliance facility to raise their children alone. These women were able to regain confidence at the facility through care and education, while also achieving both mental and financial independence. This study contributes to the discourse on the selfreliance support of migrant, single-parent women in situations where it is difficult for them to become self-reliant due to dissolution of multicultural families.
