Lao She's novel Divorce deals with real social problems at the time of its creation. In addition, the literary and artistic values of Divorce are worthy of reevaluating from today's perspective. In particular, it needs to be reanalyzed and reevaluated to have better assessment than the existing one in that it successfully embodied the creation and description of unique character types and humor which are his specialty. In this paper, we examine the character images of Zhang Dage and Laoli, the main characters in Divorce, with a focus on the homo duplex characteristics. In addition, we pay attention to Mrs. Li's active image and subjectivity, which have been recognized as a flat and passive character, and we highlight the solidarity relationship between women. Thus, from the successful construction of the unique and round character images in Divorce, we can guess the reason why he cherished it more than Luotuoxiangzi, which is well known to the public as his representative work.
