도ㆍ소매업 기업들의 구조조정이 총매출이익률 개선에 미치는 영향-설비자산 감축과 인력감축을 중심으로-

Recently, Korean wholesalers and retailers are facing changes in their business structures and declining profitability. This study empirically analyzed whether wholesale and retail businesses can improve corporate performance through restructuring. Specifically, from 2010 to 2020, we analyzed how the changes in gross profit margin were affected through plant and equipment assets restructuring and human resources restructuring targeting wholesale and retail companies among listed companies in Korea. As a result of the analysis, plant and equipment assets restructuring had a positive effect on the improvement of gross profit margin after three years. In addition, human resources restructuring had a positive effect on the improvement of gross profit margin after one year, two years, and three years later. These results are consistent with previous studies that restructuring can improve performance according to its purpose. Through empirical analysis, this study suggests restructuring strategies for wholesale and retail companies that are experiencing recent changes. Wholesale and retail businesses exposed to technological development and rapidly changing environment must reduce corporate costs through active restructuring of more than 5% of surplus plant and equipment assets and surplus human resources. It is said that active restructuring can improve corporate efficiency and improve future business performance.
