초록
본 연구는 국내 벤처기업들의 인적자본 특성이 초기 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 기업들이 창업 이후 초기 어려움을 극복하지 못하고 실패하는 경우가 많아지면서, 창업 초기 직면하는 문제를 해결하고 생존과 지속성장을 가능케 하는 요인에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 창업자 및 창업팀의 인적자본 특성은 창업 초기 자원부족의 어려움을 극복하고 지속적인 성과 창출의 원동력으로 작용할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 창업 초기 벤처기업 783개사의 자료를 바탕으로 인적자본 특성과 초기 성과 간의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 창업자의 과거 창업경험은 초기 성과에 정(+)의 유의한 영향을 미치고, 관련 산업경험은 역U자형의 유의한 정(+)의 영향 관계를 보였다. 창업자의 학력 수준은 유의한 정(+)의 영향 관계를 보이지 않았다. 반면, 공동창업 여부나 창업팀 규모는 예상과 달리 초기성과에 부의 영향 관계를 보였다. 이는 창업 초기 벤처기업의 성과에 있어서 창업자 및 창업팀의 인적자본 특성이 미치는 영향이 다양하게 나타날 수 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 이런 결과를 바탕으로 이론적 및 실무적 시사점과 향후 연구 과제를 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study investigated the effect of entrepreneurial human capital on the initial new venture performance. In previous studies, entrepreneurial human capital has been regarded as an important factor for performance by overcoming the lack of resources in the early stage of new ventures. Based on the data of 783 new ventures in the early stage, the relationships between entrepreneurial human capital and initial performance were empirically analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the founder's past start-up experience positively and significantly related to the initial performance and industrial experience showed an inverted U-shaped relationship. The founder's educational background showed insignificant effect on the performance. Contrary to expectation co-founding and the size of founding team had negative relationships with the initial performance. The results showed that the effects of entrepreneurial human capital on early new venture performance can appear in various ways. This study presented several theoretical and practical implications and directions for future research.
