연구개발 투자가 지식재산권에 미치는 영향 : 박사연구원 비중과 검사장비 수준의 상호효과

4차 산업혁명과 최근 코로나19사태는 비대면 사회를 앞당기면서 정보통신기술의 융⋅복합 현상을 더욱 가속 화 시키고 있다. 이러한 동태적 환경에서 연구개발 투자는 기업의 생존을 위해 필수이나 중소기업의 경우 연구 개발 투자를 통한 기술 혁신 성과 창출에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 특히 기업 내부자원에 초점을 두어 연구개발 투자가 기술 혁신성과에 미치는 효과와 무형자원의 중요성을 체계적으로 분석한 연구는 미흡한 수준이다. 이에 본 연구는 자원기반론을 토대로 VRIO 조건과 특허 등록요건을 적용하여 연구개발 투자, 박사연구원 비중, 검사 장비 수준이 각각 지식재산권에 영향을 미치는지를 살펴본 후 추가적으로 이들 자원 간의 상호작용효과를 중소 기업기술통계조사 데이터 12,759개를 사용하여 실증분석 하였다. 분석 결과, 주효과인 연구개발 투자, 박사연구 원 비중은 지식재산권과 정(+)의 관계가 나타났고, 상호작용효과의 경우 연구개발 투자와 지식재산권 간의 관계 에 대해 박사 연구원 비중과 검사장비 수준이 모두 정(+)의 조절효과가 있었다. 이는 중소기업은 향후 연구개발 투자 시 무형자원인 지식자본을 중심으로 선제적으로 가치를 창출할 수 있는 혁신 전략이 필요함을 의미한다. 아울러 지식재산권 기반의 기업 경쟁력 강화는 효과적인 부가가치 창출을 가능하게 하는 대안이 될 수 있으므로 국가차원의 성장전략으로 채택할 것을 검토해볼 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
The 4th industrial revolution and the outbreak of COVID-19 have accelerated the convergence of in- formation and communication technologies. Under this dynamic environment, research and development (R&D) investment is prominent for the corporate survival. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encountering several hardships to produce innovative profit through R&D investment. Prior stud- ies scrutinizing the influence of R&D investment over innovative profit systematically focusing on internal resource such as intangible resource are scarce. Based on the resource-based theory of the firm, this manu- script studies the influence of R&D investment, proportion of PhD research fellow, and the level of inspection equipment on the intellectual property rights (IPRs) respectively adopting the VRIO framework and require- ments for patent registration. In addition, the interaction effects of each resources and R&D investment are studied. We used 12,759 observations from survey on technology of SMEs for empirical analyses. R&D investment and the proportion of PhD research fellow showed positive influence over IPRs, while the two internal resources displayed positive moderating effect to the linkage between R&D investment and the IPRs. The results imply that innovative strategy which centers on the knowledge capital is necessary for SMEs to generate innovative profit. Strengthening corporate competitiveness by promoting IPRs could be a fine-grained strategy for national growth as it is an effective solution for generating value creation.
