국제유가와 천연가스가격 간의 관계 분석 및 한국의 LNG 가격 추정
Analysis of the Relationship between International Oil Prices and Natural Gas Prices, and the Estimation of LNG Prices in Korea

본 연구는 세계적인 경기둔화와 함께 북미 및 중국의 셰일오일·가스 개발로 도래한 저유가 시기의 원유가격과 천연가스가격 간의 인과관계를 분석하였다. 특히, VECM과 VAR 모형을 사용하여 국제 천연가스가격(NBP, JKM, Henry Hub)과 원유가격(Brent, Dubai, WTI) 간의 인과관계 존재 유무와 그 영향 정도를 분석하였다. 또한, 공적분 회귀모형(FM-OLS)과 오차수정모형(ECM)을 이용하여 JCC와 JKM으로 국내 LNG 가격을 추정하였다. 분석 결과, 북미(WTI, Henry Hub)를 제외한 영국(Brent, NBP), 아시아(Dubai, JKM)는원유가격과 천연가스가격이 장기균형관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 다만, Henry Hub의 경우, 타지역 유가(Brent, Dubai) 및 천연가스가격(NBP, JKM)과도 공적분 벡터가 존재하고, JKM에 단기적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 추정되었다. 한편, 국내 LNG 가격(KLNG)은 3개월 시차를 가진 유가(JCC)와 천연가스가격(JKM)의 가격탄력성이 각각 0.667, 0.123으로 추정되었으며, 저유가 시기에도 국내 LNG 가격이 여전히 유가(JCC)에 의해 훨씬 큰 영향을받은 것으로 분석된다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the causal relationship between crude oil prices and natural gas prices during the low oil price period, which came due to the development of shale oil and gas in North America and China along with the global economic slowdown. In particular, the existence and extent of the causal relationship between international natural gas prices (NBP, JKM, Henry Hub) and crude oil prices (Brent, Dubai, WTI) were analyzed using the VECM and VAR models. In addition, domestic LNG prices were estimated with JCC and JKM using the cointegration regression model (FM-OLS) and the error correction model (ECM). We found that crude oil prices and natural gas prices have a long-run relationship in the UK and Asia, excluding North America. In the case of Henry Hub, however, it was analyzed that cointegration vectors also exist with other regional oil prices (e.g., Brent, Dubai) and natural gas prices (e.g., NBP, JKM), and have a short-term effect on JKM. Meanwhile, domestic LNG prices (KLNG) were estimated to have price elasticity of oil prices (JCC) with a three-month lag and natural gas prices (JKM) of 0.667 and 0.123, respectively, which can be seen to have a much greater effect of oil prices (JCC) than Asian natural gas prices (JKM), even at low oil prices.
