카린 라르손의 텍스타일 디자인 연구

This study investigates Karin Larsson, a wife of Carl Larsson who showed the typical and ideal Swedish home through the interior decoration of Lilla Hyttnäs in Sundborn, Dalarna of Sweden. The aim of this study is analyze characteristics of Karin Larsson’s formative language in her home furnishing textile design from the 1890s to the 1910s. For this study, I examined Karin Larsson's life referring to books in Swedish and English. Also I studied the art movements and social situation of the time she had lived. Based on this study, I examined the interior textile design of Karin Larsson in Lilla Hyttnäs. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of Karin Larsson’s textile design, first, Karin showed novelty through innovative trials and attempts inspired by Swedish traditional arts and techniques in the 1890s. Second, under the influence of Art Nouveau and Japonism at the time, she pursued new styles and modern expressions, resulting in bold and simple abstract patterns and unusual vivid color in her textiles in the 1900s. Third, in the 1910s she tried to make home comfort and cozy mood through designing functional and practical in everyday life. It reminds philosophy of Swedish design, called more beautiful things for everyday use. Many examples of contemporary applications in textile and fashion design revealed that Karin Larsson's designs are considered a source of inspiration and spiritual root for many Swedish designers and that their influence continues to these days. This confirmed that Karin Larsson played an important role as a pioneer of Scandinavian style.
