하이데거의 양심 개념과 운동선수의 본래성 회복

이 글은 2020 도쿄올림픽 높이뛰기에서 4위를 한 우상혁 선수가 주목받는 이유가 무엇일까 하는 지적 호기심에서 시작되었다. 이 글의 목적은 하이데거의 양심 개념을 탐구하고 그것이 운동선수의 본래성 회복에 주는 함의를 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위한 연구 방법은 하이데거의 주저인 『존재와 시간』에 대한 문헌 분석을 하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 하이데거의 양심 개념은 어떤 행위의 선악을 평가하는 척도라는 전통적인 양심 개념과는 다르다. 왜냐하면 하이데거의 양심 개념은 인간 현존재가 어느 정도까지 본래의 자기를 구현하고 있는지를 평가하는 척도이기 때문이다. 하이데거의 양심 개념을 운동선수에 적용해 본 결과 우상혁 선수가 주목받은 이유는 자기 본래성의 회복을 보여주었기 때문이다. 본래성 회복은 운동선수가 기록, 결과, 승리에 대해 맹목적으로 집착하는 ‘세인-자기’에서 벗어나 양심의 부름에 응답하는 ‘자기의 본래성’의 회복이다. 결국, 운동선수의 본래성 회복은 선수 자신과 자신의 가능성을 알고 자기 삶의 방식을 스스로 선택하는 것이다. 운동선수는 스포츠-내-존재로서 경기장에 던져진 존재이다. 그가 경기장에서 본래적으로 실존하느냐, 비본래적으로 실존하느냐는 양심의 부름에 답하는 것에 달려 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to explore Heidegger’s concept of conscience and reveal the implications of restoring the athlete’s authenticity. This study analyzed the literature on Heidegger’s hesitation, 『Existence and Time』. The results are as follows. Heidegger’s concept of conscience is different from the traditional concept of conscience, a measure of evaluating the good and evil of an act. Heidegger’s concept of conscience measures the extent to which human beings embody their authenticity. Let us apply Heidegger’s concept of conscience to athletes. The reason why Woo Sang-hyuk received attention is that he showed a recovery in his authenticity. The authenticity restoration is because the athlete has recovered his authenticity in response to the call of conscience, Thus, the athlete breaking away from the “sein-self” is blindly obsessed with records, results, and victory. In the end, the restoration of the athlete’s authenticity can be said to be the restoration of conscience that restores the lost conscience. Athletes are thrown into the stadium. immersed in sports as a being-in-sports. Whether a player is unauthenticated or authenticated in the stadium depends on answering the call of conscience.
