본 연구는 2019년 연구의 후속 연구로 2021년 포브스 글로벌2000(Forbes Global 2000)에등재된 67개 중국계 금융기업과 111개 미국계 금융기업의 사회적 책임 활동(CSR)을 관찰하여, 중국과 미국의 정치경제체제적인 차이가 기업의 사회적 책임 활동에서도 뚜렷하게 반영되고 있는가를 재평가하고 있다. 연구는 중국과 미국의 금융기업의 CSR 보고서 다운로드, 작성가이드라인 조사 등 방식으로 내용 분석을 하였다. 2019년 연구와 동일하게 중국과 미국 기업들의 CSR 보고서 작성 과정에서 GRI와 같은 국제사회의 중요한 규범을 지키지 않고 있다는 결과를 도출하였다. “강대국의 오만”이라는2019년 연구의 가설을 검증하기 위해 연구진은 19개국을 대상으로 한 국제비교를 통하여국제규범의 준수는 국가의 경제규모와 부정적 상관관계가 있고, 무역의존도와는 긍정적 상관관계가 있음을 “부분적으로” 확인하였다. 이와 함께 기업들은 CSR을 중요한 개념으로 수용하되 구체적인 실행 도구는 각각의 재량권에 맡겨져 있으며 표준화되지 않다는 것도 확인하였다.
Abstract
As a follow-up study to the 2019 study, this study reevaluates whether the differences in political and economic systems between China and the United States are clearly reflected in corporate social responsibility activities. We observed the social responsibility activities of 67 Chinese financial companies and 111 US financial companies listed in 2021 Forbes Global 2000 by analyzing the CSR reports and investigating guidelines for writing CSR reports. In the same way as the 2019 study, it was found that Chinese and American companies did not comply with important international norms such as GRI in the process of preparing CSR reports. In order to verify the hypothesis of the 2019 study of “the arrogance of a powerful country,” we confirmed “partially” through international comparisons of 19 countries that compliance with international norms has a negative correlation with the country's economic size and has a positive correlation with trade dependence. In addition, companies accepted CSR as an important concept, but it was also confirmed that specific implementation tools were left to their discretion and were not standardized.
