정관응(鄭觀應) 『이언(易言)』의 판본 변화에 관한 연구

This paper analyzed the changes through text analysis of the two editions of Yiyan, focusing on the point where Zheng Guanying, a famous chinese comprador in Shanghai, published an exceptional reduced edition in a short time. By Among 36 articles revising and deleting 16 articles and only publishing 20 articles, Zheng seems to have sought to switch from a discussion of political theory to an objective fact-oriented information booklet or catalog. In terms of content and subject matter, most of the criticisms of the system's backwardness, irrationality, manpower incompetence, and corruption in China were all deleted. And in terms of rhetoric strategy, Zheng have expressed is intention to avoid subjective discussions, lengthy editorials, and emotional appeals. The articles that were not included in the reduced edition were also related to the local customs or social order hardly related to both current and western affairs. And political articles that harshly criticized the current system were also not included in reduced edition. On the other hand, most of Western culture and institutions were included, and the weight was rather strengthened by the previous two narrative strategies. This perspective provides a new perspective on the writing manners of the emerging class at the opening port of late Qing Dynasty.
