인간의 판단과 결정이 기술로 대체된다면 우리 사회는 더 공정해질 수 있을까. 아니면 오히려 기술에 대한 의존도가 우리 사회의 차별적 관행을 더욱 은밀하거나 공고하게 만들 것인가. '정보기술이 과연 우리 사회의 공정성에 어떤 영향을 미치는가?'는 많은 질문과 확인이 필요한 거대한 담론으로 최근 인공지능 활용을 둘러싼 논란 속에서 활발히 제기되고 있다. 디지털사회에서 제기되는 공정성 논의는 다양한 영역에서 인공지능 활용의 가능성과 한계 논의와 직결된다. 인공지능 알고리즘에 의한 의사결정은 무엇보다 투명해야 하며, 이러한 투명성과 관련하여 주체에 대한 일정한 책임이 요구된다. 특히 인공지능이 어떤 인과관계를 통해 결론을 도출했는지 투명하게 공개하는 것이 인공지능 활용의 공정성을 확보하는 첫걸음이다. 인공지능이 가져다주는 개인적, 사회적 이익을 수용하면서도 끊임없는 시정과 경계를 통해 공정성을 추구하고, 불공정한 결과에 대해 책임을 질 수 있도록 기술의 투명성과 책임성을 부여할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Can our society become more fair if human judgment and decisions are replaced with technology? Rather, the dependence on technology might make our society's discriminatory practices more secretive or solid. ‘How does information technology really affect the fairness of our community?’ is a huge discourse that requires a lot of questions and confirmation, and is being actively raised in the recent controversy surrounding the use of artificial intelligence. Decision-making by artificial intelligence algorithms must be made transparent above all else, and a certain responsibility is required for the subject in relation to such transparency. Requiring transparent disclosure of which causal mechanism AI derives results is the first step in ensuring fairness in the use of AI. While accepting the personal and social benefits brought by artificial intelligence, it is necessary to give technology transparency and accountability so that it can pursue fairness through constant correction and vigilance and take responsibility for unfair products.
