대형항공사 기업결합에 따른 경영 효율성 분석

In Korea, Korean Air declared a business combinations in cooperatives under the government's supervision to avoid Asiana Airlines from going bankrupt as a result of the protracted COVID-19's negative impact on the air transportation industry. Because airlines purchase or lease aircraft and conduct similar business such as sales passenger and cargo transportation and operations to support them merging companies is the simplest way to compete with other airlines and achieve economies of scale such as effectively lowering operating costs and expanding their route networks. Therefore, in this study, using data envelopment analysis, the efficiency and super-efficiency of the scale of the individual airlines and the two airlines assuming a corporate combination were analyzed based on the domestic and international transportation traffic of Koreanair and Asiana airlines from 2009 to 2019. With the exception of 2009 and 2010, the research indicated that Koreanair had the best efficiency of scale when compared to a corporate merger with Asiana Airlines. In the case of cooperate merger it appears that there is room for optimizing by adjusting the route network with Asiana airlines.
