The Potential Entrepreneurs’ Ability to Bounce Back in the Field of Technology Start-up: The Mediating Role of Learning Orientation

Entrepreneurial process is a field of endeavor characterized by adversity, stress, and trauma. Thus, understanding resilience becomes a priority who potential entrepreneur undertakes new firm formation. However, resilience has not received enough attention to predict entrepreneurial intention. Moreover, while resilience plays a central role in entrepreneurship research, although this study aims to explore the influence of psychological factors on new venture creation, scholars have not begun to uncover specific mechanisms. The purpose of this study then was to examine learning orientation as a mediator in the resilience and the start-up intention relationship of potential entrepreneurs in the technology start-up field. Questionnaires were employed to collect data from different universities of future entrepreneurs who took technology start-up classes in Korea. A total of 210 completed questionnaires were returned. Results showed that resilience and learning orientation had a positive effect on start-up intention. Further, learning orientation had a significant mediating effect on the resilience and the start-up intention relationship. Based on these results, theoretical and practical implications were discussed. Finally, the limitations of this study and future research directions were discussed.
