기업수명주기별 경영자 능력이 기업가치에 미치는 영향: 제약·바이오산업을 중심으로
Managerial Ability and Firm Value by Life Cycle: Focusing on the Bio-pharmaceutical Industry

국내 제약·바이오산업의 특성을 이해하고자 본 연구는 제약·바이오 기업의 경영자 능력이 기업가치에 미치는 영향 을 기업수명주기 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 전체 기업을 대상으로 한 분석에서는 기업수명주기 단계 중 성장기 에서만 경영자 능력이 기업가치에 긍정적 영향을 미치고, 쇠퇴기에서는 부정적 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 제약·바이오산업과 비 제약·바이오산업을 비교하여 분석한 결과에서는 도입기와 성숙기에서 제약·바이오 기업이 비 제약·바이오 기업보다 경영자 능력과 기업가치 관련성이 크지만, 쇠퇴기에서는 경영자 능력과 기업가치 관련성이 더 작은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 신약 개발에 대한 투자가 이루어지는 도입기 단계와 새로운 신약 개발을 모색하는 성숙기에 경영자의 의사결정이 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 쇠퇴기에는 경영자의 기회주 의적 성향이 기업에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 기업의 수명주기 즉 경영환경에 따라 경영자 역할의 중요성이 달라짐을 확인하였다.
Abstract
To understand the characteristics of the domestic bio-pharmaceutical industries, we examine the relationship between managerial ability and firm value by life cycle in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. We find that managerial ability impacts firm value positively in the growth stage firms and negatively in the decline firms. Also, we find that managerial ability in the bio-pharmaceutical firms impacts firm value more positively in the introduction and mature stage and more negatively in the decline stage than non-bio-pharmaceutical industries. These results imply that the CEO's decision-making according to the business environment has an important influence on corporate value, especially in bio-pharmaceutical industry.
