지방도시의 공공디자인에 관한 연구 : 유니버설 디자인을 활용한 공공디자인 개선 사례

The issues with low birth rates and aging play a key role in hindering the development of regional cities. Also, the majority of development continues to focus on large cities, leaving regional cities falling behind. To solve these issues, Gochang-gun in Jeollabuk-do investigated how to improve public design towards a Universal Design of Women-Friendly Cities. A Universal Design presents a symbolic meaning of caring for the population which is considered vulnerable or excluded. It also means a city that supports every resident, not only women but also children, multicultural families, disabled, and the elderly, to have better lives. We examined positive cases of existing Universal Design of analyze public design elements applied to the street scenery, architecture, facilities and visual media in Gochang-gun. The effects of improving the design of Universal Design are the facilitation of equal participation of women and men in local policies and strengthening women's capabilities, caring, and safety. More opportunities and conditions for social activities can be provided in safer and more supportive social systems. This can improve residents' quality of life and increase the influx of external population, strengthening regional competitiveness. Gochang-gun was designated as a "Women-Friendly Cities." selected by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the project to improve public design of the to various regional cities.
