An Analysis of the Relationship between Job Stress, Job Exhaustion, and Organizational Cynicism in Japanese Franchise Restaurants

This study suggests implications for the operation of Japanese restaurants by analyzing the relationships among job characteristics, job stress, job burnout, and organizational cynicism of Japanese franchise restaurants. In this study, a self-report questionnaire was conducted targeting Japanese cooks. The survey period was conducted for a total of one month from December 1, 2021 to December 30, 2021, and a total of 229 questionnaires were collected. The verification result is as follows. The verification result is as follows. First, it was found that the lower the task identity, task autonomy, and feedback, which are sub-dimensions of the job characteristics of Japanese cook, the lower the job stress in a significant direction (−). However, functional diversity was not found to be significant in job stress. Second, it was found that the lower the task autonomy and the lower the feedback, the lower the job burnout. However, functional diversity was found to be insignificant for job burnout, and task identity was analyzed to decrease in an insignificant direction (−). Third, the lower the functional diversity, task identity, and feedback, the lower the organizational cynicism. It was analyzed that task autonomy decreased in an insignificant direction (−). Fourth, the lower the job stress and burnout, the lower the organizational cynicism. Therefore, useful implications for Japanese restaurants were suggested based on these verification results.
