본 연구는 우리나라 기업을 대상으로 4차 산업혁명이 고용에 미치는 영향을 추정하였다. 통계청의 2016년·2019년「기업활동조사」자료를 이용하여 4차 산업혁명 관련기술을 도입·활용한 기업과 그렇지 않은 기업에 대해서 고용에 유의미한 차이가존재하는지를 분석한 것이다. 첫째, 이중차분 분석 결과에 의하면 4차 산업혁명 관련기술을 도입·활용한 기업은 기준 시점에 비해서 상용근로자 수가 감소하는 것으로나타났다. 그러나 임시·일용근로자 수는 중소기업과 대기업 모두 증가한 것으로분석되었다. 둘째, 회귀모형을 이용한 분석 결과에서는 4차 산업혁명 관련 기술을도입·활용한 중소기업의 임시·일용근로자 수의 경우에만 통계적으로 유의미한 양(+)의영향이 존재하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 결과는 기존 연구에서 제시하는 바와같이 4차 산업혁명으로 인한 자동화의 진전이 우리나라 고용의 순 증가에 영향을미칠 수 있지만 그 효과는 주로 중소기업의 임시·일용근로자를 중심으로 이루어질가능성이 있음을 시사한다. 그러므로 4차 산업혁명 관련 정책을 추진함에 있어서우리나라 노동 시장의 양극화를 심화시키지 않고 소득 불평등을 확대하지 않는정책 방향성을 고려할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the 4th Industrial Revolution on employment. Using the firm data of ‘The Survey of Business Activity’ distributed by Statistics Korea in 2016 and 2019, this paper identified the significant impact on employment for Korean firms. First, according to the results of the Difference-in-Difference (DID) analysis, the number of regular workers in the firm that utilized the 4th industrial revolution technology decreased. However, the number of temporary workers was found to increase in both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises. Second, using the regression model the paper also identified statistically significant positive effect only on the number of temporary workers in SMEs. These results suggest that the progress in automation through the 4th industrial revolution may affect the net increase in employment in Korea, but the effect may happen to increase temporary workers in SMEs. Therefore, government policy direction related to the 4th Industrial Revolution should be considered so that the introduction and use of technologies do not increase income inequality.
