선의 풍격을 중심으로한 다기세트 디자인 제안

Tea is animportant in people’s daily life since ancient times. After thousands of years of development, however, people are not satisfying with merely drinking tea itself but develop the pursuit of spiritual peace through tea. Zen refers to the practice, meditation and reflection. Tea-drinking and Zen meditation are similar, because both can maintain the peace of mind through certain practices. And tea can refresh people’s mind when they are meditating, and the relationship between tea-drinking and Zen meditation are closely related, and therefore, the idea of “Daseonilmi” have come into being. A tea set is the tool for drinking tea and an important carrier for meditating as well. Zen style stems from the Zen Buddhism, while the expression of Zen in tea set is the Zen style, which helps people to better appreciate the conception of Zen when they are drinking tea and to maintain spiritual gratification. Nevertheless, the design of tea sets with Zen style in the market generally lacks innovation and fails to showcase the Zen style, and therefore, it cannot fully deliver the cultural spirit. In view of this above, this study aims to provide suggestions for reasonable design of tea sets with Zen style. To achieve the research purpose, it centered on the Zen style and examined the traditional aesthetics of Zen in the tea set; Then through the investigation of relevant literature and books, and the analysis of sublime tea sets with Zen style at home and abroad, a comprehensive theoretical investigation was conducted. And based on the consumer questionnaire, this study summarized the design philosophy, i.e., abstract and simplicity in shape, plainness in color, naturalness in material, and emphasis on the user’s emotional experience. In the end, this study proposed a design by abstracting the representational image of bamboo. And hopefully, the Zen style the tea set embodies can receive full recognition by consumers and shed a light on the future Zen designs.
