Traditions that accept cultural universality and distinctiveness and materials that utilize those traditions have evolved and developed along with changes in empathy and aesthetic values ​​according to the development of the times. In the wave of the 4th Industrial Revolution and globalization, which are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the value of authenticity gives the symbolism of the origin and essence of the nation, and this cultural symbolism itself can be expressed as a unique differentiation in the global market. Today, we encounter various cultural contents, pursue new things, and are interested in complex and new cultural contents. The purpose of this study is to develop a 'textile design' that can be expanded into cultural contents by formative analysis of the 'jangseung pattern' expressed in Korean tradition. As a formative feature of Jangseung, it is expressed in cultural symbolic meaning, creativity, humor, and diversity. The detailed elements of the form of Jangseung can be divided into distortion, exaggeration, and combination according to the expression method of the human body. The textile design made by reinterpreting the jangseung expresses the dynamic, lively and humorous appearance of the jangseung like a living thing and can be expanded into various shapes. In addition, it was possible to show the differentiated value of traditional culture through the combination and expansion of design at the level of traditional design. This study is meaningful in understanding the characteristics of Korean traditional culture by identifying and applying the characteristics of Jangseung patterns with diversity and subjective tradition from the perspective of traditional culture, and furthermore, suggesting visualization of traditional cultural contents and diversity of symbolic expressions.
