해외 ESG 경영 동향 연구: 미국, EU, 일본을 중심으로

초록
2020대 이후 국제적으로 ESG경영과 관련된 이슈가 가속화되고 있다. 특히 민간 기업차원의 ESG 경영 및 투자는 이미 일반화되고 있으며, 이러한 ESG 투자규모가 글로벌 경제시장 내에서 폭발적으로 성장하고 있다. 이미 2015년 파리에서 열린 UN 기후변화협약(UNFCCC: United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)에서 선진국과 개도국은 ‘공동의 그러나 차별화된 책임(Common But Differentiated Responsibilities)’에따라 각 나라의 능력에 맞게 기후 및 온실가스 감축을 약속하였다. ESG 경영은 기업의 경영활동과정에서 환경을 보호하고, 지역사회의 지속가능한 발전을 위해 사회공헌활동을추구하며, 나아가서 법과 윤리에 입각한 윤리적 및 사회적 가치를 기업활동에 반영하는 것이다. 기후와 환경변화는 기업의 지속가능성을 결정짓는 중요한 요소이며, 따라서 ESG 경영이 중대한 투자기회가 되고 있다는 인식하에서, 본 연구는 미국, 유럽연합 및 일본 등 선진국의 ESG 경영에 대한 공시제도와 정책 등을 탐색한 후 이에 대한 시사점을 찾고자 한다.
Abstract
After the 2020s, issues related to ESG management are accelerating internationally. In particular, ESG manage- ment and investment at the private enterprise level is already becoming common, and the scale of ESG invest- ment is growing explosively in the global economy. Already at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Paris in 2015, developed and developing countries have pledged to reduce climate and greenhouse gas emissions according to each country’s capabilities according to ‘Common But Differentiated Responsibilities’. ESG management protects the environment in the course of corporate management activities and pursues social contribution activities for the sustainable development of local communities. Furthermore, this is to reflect ethical and social values based on laws and ethics to business activities. Climate and environmental change are important factors that determine corporate sustainability, and therefore ESG management is becoming a significant investment opportunity. Under this awareness, this study seeks im- plications after exploring the disclosure systems and policies for ESG management in advanced countries such as the United States, European Union, and Japan.
