프로젝트 계획의 적절성이 성과에 미치는 영향: 범위변동을 중심으로

Companies are promoting IT projects that actively utilize information and communication technology as a means to secure rapid growth and competitiveness in a new era of change. Through this, companies are increasing the proportion of IT projects to secure competitive advantage, increase productivity and profitability, etc. In general, plans in IT projects are established quickly and briefly, and in most cases, the project plan is modified as necessary while carrying out the project in the execution stage. Because of this, the success rate of IT projects is relatively low compared to projects in other industries. The reason is that the project result is software, an intangible service product, and the user’s requirements change frequently, resulting in a change in scope, which affects schedule, required cost, and input resources. Frequent changes to these project plans often have a negative impact on project performance as a result. This study aimed to understand how important it is to achieve the target project performance when the project plan is properly established and executed, focusing on the IT project industry. In particular, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of changes in project scope on customer satisfaction and productivity, which are project performance variables. In addition, we also tried to confirm that the degree of impact of scope change on project performance varies depending on the project duration, project manager’s experience, and outsourcing human resource rate. For the empirical analysis of the study, data collected from about 500 actual IT projects were used. Regression analysis was used as the analysis method, and statistical analysis was performed on independent and control variables. Looking at the results of the analysis, it was found that changes in the scope that occur in the project plan have a negative effect on customer satisfaction and productivity, which are project performance. The theoretical performance of this study is to empirically confirm the relationship between project planning and implementation and to prove the importance of planning on project performance. As a practical implication, it was suggested that faithful planning in the Korean project management culture, which tends to rush through the project planning stage for rapid project execution, helps to increase project performance.
