환경철학을 위한 ‘목적론적 자연법’전통- 아리스토텔레스와 아퀴나스의 사상의 재평가 관점에서 -

This study is an attempt to revive the tradition of ‘teleological natural law’, which has formed a long tradition of thinking in Western philosophy, and apply it to contemporary environmental philosophy discourse. The tradition of ‘teleological natural law’ is a tradition of thought that developed into a system of thought with strong vitality by Thomas Aquinas in the Western Middle Ages, rooted in the teleological theory established by Aristotle in ancient times. In this paper, the author seeks to find and signify that this ‘teleological natural law’ tradition forms the theoretical basis of today’s discourses for environmental philosophy. In this sense, this study can be said to be a modern salvation of the ‘teleological natural law’ tradition. From this perspective, this study first focuses on 1) harmony between teleology and natural law, 2) positive argument for natural tendencies, 3) concept of conscience and expansion of modern meaning in order to discover the theoretical value of the ‘teleological natural law’ in tradition Aristotle and Aquinas’s thoughts. In addition, this paper critically examines the transformation of the tradition of ‘teleological natural law’ with the emergence of the concept of ‘natural rights’ in the Western Modern Ages. In conclusion, the author goes beyond the simple critical attitude that the ‘old clothes’ is just the ‘outdated’, and actively emphasizes the possibility of discovering the modern value of the ‘teleological natural law’ tradition for the restoration of the right relationship between humans and nature.
