코로나19확진 독거노인의 삶의 변화: 존엄한 삶과 죽음에 대한 의미 탐색

초록
본 연구에서는 코로나19 바이러스에 감염을 경험한 독거노인의 존엄한 삶과 죽음에 대한 경험과정의 공통된 맥락요소를 추출하고, 맥락별 감정을 단계별로 탐색하였다. 본 연구의 참여자들은 코로나19 이전 경기도에 소재한 노인복지관과 경로당을 장기간 이용한 독거노인 5명으로 구성되었다. 분석은 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구 방법을 적용하여 참여자의 언어를 그대로 기술하고 이를 학문적 용어로 전환하여 분석함으로써 독거노인의 삶의 변화의 본질적인 내용과 구조를 8개의 중심 의미와 4개의 하위 범주, 2개의 상위 범주로 도출하였다. 코로나19 재감염에 대한 불안감과 극도의 공포감과 후유증을 겪으면서 일상생활을 예전보다 더 조심스럽고 제한적으로 생활하고 있다. 또한, 코로나19 바이러스에 무력하게 대응하지도 못하면서 노인들의 삶에 대한 의미와 죽음에 대한 존엄성을 위협받고 있다. 재감염의 위험이 무서워 외부와의 차단을 선택하였더니 고립으로 인한 외로움과 고독감으로 힘들어하였으며, 외롭게 죽음을 맞이하고 쓸쓸히 떠나버린 확진 사망자를 떠올리면 절망감에 휩싸였다. 고령 취약계층 노인들에 대한 통합적 관리와 재감염 위험성이 높은 고위험군 고령노인에게 지역사회의 보건복지 민･관 거버넌스 중재 방안이 필요할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to reveal the empirical meaning and essence of the lives of the elderly living alone who are experienced infection with the COVID-19 and having difficulties due to the outbreak of after COVID-19. The participants of this study consisted of five elderly people living alone who used a senior welfare center in Gyeonggi-do for a long time before COVID-19. The analysis was done by applying Giorgi’s phenomenological research method to describe the participants' language as it is and converting it into academic terms. The essential content and structure of the changes in the lives of the elderly living alone were derived into 8 central meanings, 4 sub-categories, and 2super-categories. Due to COVID-19, The meaning of life and the dignity of death are being threatened by the inability to respond helplessly to the COVID-19 virus. Participants were engulfed in despair when they think of the confirmed deceased who died lonely and left alone. An integrated management of the elderly in the vulnerable group and intervention measures for the elderly in the high-risk group with a high risk of reinfection will be needed.
