루카 파치올리의 부기론에 투영된 기독교 사상

본 연구는 세계 최초의 복식부기서인 루카 파치올리의 산술총람(1494)을 회계학점 측면을 포함, 기독교 사상의 관점에서 분석하는 데에 목적이 있다. 산술총람은 총600쪽에 이르는 저서로, 제9장 11절에 복식부기에 관한 내용이 기록되어 있다. 또한 연구 결과, 산술총람이 중세 이탈리아 베니스 상인들 사이에 이루어지던 거래를 차변과 대변 분개 방법으로 표시하고, 이것이 원장을 통해 집계되는 결산 절차가 고안되어 있었던 점에서 회계학의 발전에 지대한 공헌을 하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 둘째는 파치올리가 산술총람을 단지 경제행위에 대한 기록을 회계적인 원리에 따라 장부를 표시하는 데에 머무르지 않고, 기독교적 의미의 신앙고백을 담아 작성하였음을 알 수 있었다. 훌륭한 상인이 되기 위해서는 회계장부를 기록하되 하나님의 이름으로 작성하고, 장부가 바뀔 때마다 시작 부분에 십자가()를 표시하는 등, 기독교 사상을 기반으로 정직과 양심, 회계윤리를 제시하고 있음을 확인하였다. 셋째, 파치올리는 중세교회의 부패에 대항해 종교개혁을 일으킨 마르틴 루터 및 존 칼빈과 동 시대의 사람이었다. 그러나 그는 수도사이면서도 대학 강의에 열중하고, 교황과 친밀한 관계에 있어 종교개혁에 기여하지 못했다. 파치올리는 루터나 칼빈과 비교해 종교개혁자라 부를 수 없다. 그러나 그가 산술총람에 남긴 내용은 회계학적 측면에서는 물론, 기독교 사상의 관점에서도 오늘날 많은 회계인들이 배워야 할 신앙적 교훈과 자세, 윤리를 가르쳐 주고 있음이 분명하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning and impact of 'Christian ideas projected on Luca Pacioli's bookkeeping theory'. Pacioli was born in 1445 in Italy and is a Franciscan monk. In 1494, he published the world's first bookkeeping book, "Arithmetic, Geometry, Rain, and Proportional Compendium: Arithmetic Compendium". The Arithmetic General Review is a 600-page book consisting of five topics, and contains double-entry bookkeeping among Venetian merchants at the time in Part 9, Section 11, "Contents on Calculation and Records." This is the beginning of double-entry bookkeeping used today, and it has had a great influence on the development of accounting as well as the development of modern economy. However, despite the fact that the Arithmetic Review is such a meaningful book, there are few studies on Christian ideas recorded in it. Pacioli was a monk of the same era as Martin Luther, who created the Reformation, and John Calvin, who formed the basis of the Reformed faith. So there are several representations of Christian values in the arithmetic section. This study summarizes the double bookkeeping recorded in Pacioli's arithmetic review from an accounting perspective, and then examines the Christian ideas projected therein. Finally, it sheds light on Luther and Calvin's achievements and the evaluation of monk Pacioli's achievements, and considers what ethics accountants should learn today through the confession of faith.
