With the booming development of online shopping, there are increasingly more consumers who choose to purchase online goods or online services. In the online shopping environment, consumer personal information often contains huge potential commercial value, therefore, online consumer personal information leakage cases occur from time to time. In practice, online shopping platforms usually control vast amount of consumer personal information, which will affect and threaten the lawful rights and interests of consumers and the normal order of market transactions. Even though Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Consumers Rights and Interests, Personal Information Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China and other laws and regulations have been implemented by Chinese government, under the existing system, the protection of consumer personal information in online shopping environment still faces obstacles. Given that, in accordance with existing laws and regulations, this thesis will study on the issue of the protection of consumer personal information in online shopping in China and proposes corresponding improvement suggestions.
