A Study on the Design of Upcycling Hair Ornament

Upcycling is drawing attention in that it is the creation of new value beyond simple reuse and recycling of waste, and waste is no longer discarded and worthless, but is being recreated as new or higher value depending on its use. Irresponsible consumption consciousness prevails, leading to environmental destruction due to meaningless waste of resources, reaching a serious level that threatens the global ecosystem. As a result, the concept of prioritizing the environment and society based on the awareness of environmental destruction has emerged, and upcycle is a value-up recycling concept that recycles existing resources in a material rich modern society and is becoming an issue in many fields. Therefore, this study recognizes the necessity of upcycle design development as part of the current upcycle design, and the purpose of this study is to create and develop hair Ornaments by upcycling waste hair, beads, and wires by giving aesthetic value and use to discarded objects considering environmental pollution. In this study, four modern and traditional hair ornaments were produced to highlight the popularity and artistry of waste hair, which is part of the body, by expanding the selection of product materials. As a result, the development of upcycling hair ornament works can be applied in various ways to develop creative and artistic hair ornament designs, and the utilization of waste hair as a practical and eco-friendly material was suggested. In addition, this study is meaningful in suggesting the direction of development and development of eco-friendly, artistic and rare hair ornaments, hoping that this study will provide strategies for continuous interest and promotion of upcycle.
