국내 물류기업의 재무제약과 사회적 책임활동으로써 기부금 지출에 관한 연구
The Impact of Financial Constraints on Corporate Donations Activities: evidence from Korean Logistics Industry

초록
오늘날 기업경영에 있어 사회적 책임활동(CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility)은 그 중요성이 날로 증가하고 있으며, 많은 연구들에서 기부활동 포함 기업의 CSR활동이 기업가치를 높일 수 있는 수단임을 실증해주고 있다. 하지만, 이러한 CSR활동은 기업이 처한 재무상황과 소유구조 등 다양한 요인에 의해 달라짐을언급하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 306개 물류기업을 대상으로 2000년 이후 시행한 기부활동이 재무제약수준에 따라 달라질 수 있는지, 어떠한 특성요인이 관계 되어 있는지를, 5,529개 패널데이터를 바탕으로 실증하였다. 선행연구들을 바탕으로 구축한 연구모형은 데이터특성을 감안하여 패널토빗모형과 패널프로빗모형을통해 검정을 시도하였다. 연구결과에 따르면, 국내 물류기업들은 기업이 처한 재무곤경수준에 따라 기부활동이 달라지는 것으로분석되었다. 즉, 재무곤경수준이 양호할수록 더 많은 기부활동을 수행하며, 유동성과 영업활동 현금흐름이좋을수록 기부금지출을 늘리는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 이미지개선 활동과 연계된 광고비지출이 많을수록, 대외적 평판이 중요한 큰 규모의 자산을 보유할수록 기부금지출에 보다 적극적임을 확인 할 수 있었다. 하지만, 부채규모와 기부활동 간에는 부(-)의 관계가 확인되어, 부채규모가 클수록 기부금지출에 보다 소극적인 것으로 나타났다. 물류기업의 업력은 기부활동과 부(-)의 관련성이 확인되었으나, 이는 연구대상기간 동안물류관련 경기지수의 점진적 하락 추세가 반영된 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구는 국내 물류기업을 대상으로재무제약과 기업특성에 따라 CSR활동차원의 기부금 지출특성을 파악하고, 결과를 제시하였다는데 그 의의가있을 것이다. 하지만, 물류기업의 CSR활동과 재무제약 요인을 보다 다양한 관점에서 접근한 연구가 시행될 경우 본 연구의 의의는 한층 더 강화될 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
Research Purpose: For many years, research on the corporate donations activities related to Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) been conducted, and proved that CSR activities, including donation activities, are a means to increase firm value. However, it is mentioned that these CSR activities vary depending on various factors such as the company's financial situation and ownership structure. From this point of view, this study tries to investigate whether different states of financial constraints impact on the extent of Korean logistics firm’s CSR activities. Research Methods: The sample used to test the research models is made up of 306 Korean Logistics firms during the period from 2000 to 2021, and the empirical analysis was conducted with the panel tobit model and the panel probit model. Corporate financial constraints are measured by K-score index suggested by Altman(1996). Results in Research: The results show that donations activities of Korean logistics firms differ depending on the level of financial constraints, namely, which means that companies with good financial conditions performed more donation activities. It proves that firms’ donations activities were positively correlated with liquidity, cash flow from operating activities, and advertisement expenses. But it confirmed that only 1 year lagged ROA was positively and debt ratio was negatively related to donation expenditure. Research Conclusion: Although this study verified the relationship between K-score as financial constraints variable and donation expenditure as CSR activities variable in the Korean logistics industry, there will be a need to consider the models with those variables more diversely.
