노동조합이 취약계층의 고용에 미치는 영향

After theoretical studies on the effects of labor unions on labor market performance have been performed, many empirical studies have been attempted to confirm them. However, most of the empirical studies have focused on analyzing the effects of labor unions on wages and productivity, and their results are mixed. In particular, there are not many papers addressing the relationship between labor unions and the employment of vulnerable groups. Especially no empirical literature focusing on the employment of women has been found. Above all, prior studies on the relationship between the labor union and the vulnerable are limited to cross-sectional analysis, making it difficult to explain the causal relationship. Applying panel models to the data of the Workplace Panel Survey from 2005 to 2019, this paper aims to analyze how the overall employment of companies after the establishment of the union, and the employment of vulnerable social groups, especially the employment of women, has changed. The empirical results present that companies have hired more workers after the establishment of the union, and in particular, it was found that the proportion of regular workers rather than non-regular workers and the proportion of women increased. In addition, the establishment of a labor union increased the proportion of women among new employees. However, the detailed mechanism for why such results were derived was not disclosed. As related studies are still lacking, more in-depth implications need to be drawn through various follow-up studies in the future.
