Airport Passenger Security Screening System Pricing for Fast-track Service during Post-COVID19 Era

The unexpected COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an enormous recession for the world, including the aviation industry. Evidence indicates that the economy will require much time to recover from this pandemic. To shorten the recovery term, the airport owners or operators must bring in ancillary revenues with existing capacity. With this in mind, there is a policy to generate revenue: attract passengers who would be interested in forgoing normal lanes in favor of a fast-track lane with lower waiting times, and charge them a premium rate to pass through the checkpoint quickly. This policy is a new approach to cover the high operating costs of security screenings and potentially even producing a profit in the long run. This study utilized classical Markovian queueing model to investigate this issue. We first present a matrix-geometric solution to compute the optimal policy parameters. In the experiment, the data was fed into the model, both analytically and experimentally achieved satisfying results, proving that our model is capable of solving the problem from an economic perspective.
