생물자원 이용을 통한 탄소중립 실현을 위한 국제환경법적 기반에 관한 연구

The climate change caused by human economic activities is threatening human existence itself. The international community recognizes the severity and urgency of climate change, and is taking concrete actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, building on the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. To achieve this carbon neutrality, it is necessary to use innovative science and technology to achieve rapid and sufficient results, and to realize carbon neutrality in a truly safe and environmentally friendly way, in order to truly serve future generations. Therefore, achieving carbon neutrality through the use of ‘biological resources’ has great significance in this regard. Not only Korea, which has enacted the Carbon Neutrality Basic Law, but also all countries need to discover and utilize useful biological materials for climate crisis response, and research and develop safe and environmentally friendly carbon-neutral technologies for use. The use of biological resources for carbon-neutral technology can contribute innovatively to the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2050, which is the target in a safe and environmentally friendly dimension for solving the problem of climate crisis. Therefore, long-term plans are needed to support the development of technology using the usefulness of biological resources. Furthermore, since carbon neutrality is a very important contemporary task for the survival of humanity both domestically and internationally, it is necessary to recognize that the development of carbon-neutral technology using biological resources is not a choice but a necessity for climate crisis response. The greater aspiration is for the development of carbon-neutral technology using biological resources to move beyond carbon emissions reduction and toward carbon removal.
