Factor Analysis on Export Decisions of Food Manufacturing Companies: Focus on R&D Activities in the Food Industry

본 연구는 과학기술정책연구원의 한국기업혁신조사(KIS data)를 이용해 식품 제조기업의 다양한 R&D 활동이 수출 결정에 미치는 요인을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 연구는 크게 두 가지 분석을 수행하였다. 첫째, 식품 제조기업의 수출 여부에 영향을 주는 결정 요인을 분석하였다. 둘째, 해외 주력 시장별 수출 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인과 이에 대한 한계 효과를 다항 로짓 모형을 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 식품제조기업의 R&D 활동 요인(R&D 활동, 내부 R&D 활동, 외부 R&D 활동, 1인당 R&D 투자, R&D 전담인력 등)은 수출 결정에 통계적으로 유의미한 정(+)의 요인으로 작용하였다. 또한, 이러한 R&D 활동은 다양한 해외 주력 시장(아시아, 유럽, 북미, 기타시장)에 유의미한 정(+)의 요인으로 작용하였다. 본 연구는 결론을 통해 국내 식품 제조기업 수출 경쟁력을 위한 정부의 지원제도 확대 필요성을 제언함과 동시에 식품 제조기업의 R&D 활동을 통한 수출 전략의 필요성을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study examines the factors affecting export decisions of food manufacturing companies based on various R&D activities using the Korea Innovation Survey (KIS data) conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute. To achieve this goal, two main analyses were conducted. First, it analyzed the determinants that affect the export decision of food manufacturing companies. Second, it analyzed the factors that influence export decisions in major overseas markets and their marginal effects using a multinomial logit model. The analysis results showed that R&D activities of food manufacturing companies, such as overall R&D activities, internal R&D activities, external R&D activities, R&D investment per employee, and R&D personnel, had statistically significant positive (+) effects on export decisions. Additionally, these R&D activities were found to have significant positive (+) effects on export decisions in various major overseas markets such as Asia, Europe, North America, and other markets. Based on the study's findings, it suggests the need for the government to expand support programs for enhancing the export competitiveness of domestic food manufacturing companies and highlights the importance of companies adopting export strategies through R&D activities.
