초록
본 논문은 경영진 능력과 주식 유동성의 관련성을 고찰하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 또한 이들 관계가기업의 성장성에 따라 차이를 보이는지 알아보고자 한다. 만약 우수한 능력의 경영진이 기업 정보환경개선에 기여하여 정보비대칭 문제를 완화시킬 수 있다면, 경영진 능력과 주식 유동성은 긍정적 관계를나타낼 가능성이 있다. 반면 능력 있는 경영진이 명성 유지 목적에서 기업에 대한 부정적 정보를은폐하려 한다면, 경영진 능력은 오히려 주식 유동성에 부정적 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 국내 유가증권상장회사를 대상으로 한 실증결과에 따르면 경영진 능력은 주식 비유동성에 유의한 부(-)의 영향을미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 우수한 능력의 경영진이 기업 정보환경을 개선시켜 주식 유동성을높일 수 있음을 시사한다. 이어서 기업 성장성과 경영진 능력의 교차효과를 검증한 결과, 성장성이높고 경영진의 능력이 뛰어날수록 주식 비유동성은 감소하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 기업정보에 대한 투자자의 관심도가 상대적으로 높은 고성장 기업일수록, 능력 있는 경영진의 정보환경개선효과가 더욱 긍정적으로 인식될 수 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 경영진 능력과 주식 유동성의관련성을 분석한 초기 연구라는 데 의미가 있으며, 기업 성장성이 이들 관계에 미치는 영향까지검토했다는 점에서 차별화된다. 또한 본고의 실증결과는 능력 있는 경영진이 주식 유동성 제고 차원에서중요할 수 있다는 시사점을 제시한다.
Abstract
This article examines the effect of managerial ability on stock liquidity. We also investigate the interaction effect of managerial ability and firm growth on stock liquidity. If high-ability managers reduce the information asymmetry, the managerial ability can have a positive impact on stock liquidity. On the other hand, if managers with high abilities hide negative firm information to maintain their reputation, the managerial ability will have a negative effect on stock liquidity. First, managerial ability has a negative effect on stock illiquidity. This result implies that high-ability managers can improve stock liquidity. Second, the interaction term of managerial ability and firm growth has a negative relationship with stock illiquidity. This finding indicates that the information asymmetry mitigation can be perceived as more positive in high-growth firms. This study contributes to verifying the role of high-ability managers. Furthermore, this paper has a contribution in that it shows the relationship of managerial ability, firm growth, and stock liquidity.
