대학 전공과 직무 불일치가 노동시장 진입 초기 임금에 미치는 영향

초록
우리나라의 전공-직무 불일치는 매우 심각한 수준이며, 이는 낮은 노동시장 성과를 유발하므로 교육투자의 비효율성을 증가시킨다. 전공-직무 불일치 효과는전공계열별로 상이하기 때문에 각 전공계열의 전공-직무 불일치 정도를 확인해볼 필요가 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 4년제 대학교를 졸업한 임금근로자의 전공- 직무 불일치 정도가 노동시장 진입 초기 임금 수준에 미치는 영향을 전공계열별로 비교하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면 전공계열별 전공-직무 불일치 정도는 인문-사회과학-자연과학-예체능-공학-교육-의약계열의 순서로 큰 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 전공-직무 불일치의 정도가 증가할수록 노동시장 초기 실질임금에부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 추정되었다. 전공계열별 전공-직무 불일치 수준이 실질임금에 미치는 부정적인 효과는 공학, 사회과학, 교육 및 의약 전공계열에서는 분명하게 나타났다. 하지만, 인문, 자연과학 및 예체능 전공계열의 경우에는 전공-직무 불일치 수준이 높을수록 실질임금이 오히려 증가하는 것으로 나타나, 자신의 전공과 다른 직무를 수행하는 직업으로 진출할 때 실질임금이 상승할수 있음을 확인하였다.
Abstract
The mismatch between college majors and jobs (horizontal mismatch) increases the inefficiency of educational investment by causing low labor market productivity. As horizontal mismatch effects may be different by major, it is necessary to distinguish its effects by college major. This study investigates how the horizontal mismatch impacts the wages of those who graduated from a four-year college early in their career in each major. The results imply that an increase in a horizontal mismatch is negatively associated with wages in the early career stage. We can confirm this pattern in engineering, social science, education, and medical science majors. On the other hand, the horizontal mismatch increases the wages of those who studied humanities, natural science, and arts and physical education majors.
