북한의 ‘어머니 당’에 대한 세뇌 효과와 한계: 조선예술영화 ‘보증’에 삽입된 김일성 상(賞)계관시인 김철의 시 <어머니>, <용서하시라>를 중심으로
Brainwashing effects and limitations on North Korea's 'Mother Party': Focusing on Kim Il sung's poems <Mother> and <Forgive> by Kim Chul, a poet in the Joseon art film 'Guarantee'

본 연구에서는 조선예술영화 ‘보증’에 삽입된 김철의 시 <어머니>와 <용서하시라>를 통해 북한의 ‘어머니 당’에 대한 세뇌 효과와 한계를 북한이탈주민들의 증언을 통해서 알아보았다. 연구에 참여한 9명의 북한이탈주민들 중, 1명(장마당세대)을 제외한 8명은 이 시를 80%이상 암기하고 있었다. 연구대상자 9명에게 당시 이 시를 읊으면서 ‘어머니 당’에 진심으로 충성해야겠다는 생각을 가졌냐는 연구자의 질문에 1990년대 장마당 세대인 G씨와 H씨를 제외한 연구대상자 7명은 “당시에는 이 시를 읊으면서 당에 진심으로 충성하였고 이것을 너무나 당연하게 생각하였다.”라고 증언하였다. 하지만 장마당세대인 G씨와 H씨는 연구자의 같은 질문에 “어머니 당이 100% 다맞다고 생각하지 않았다”라고 답변하였다. 북한은 1980~90년대 당시 북한사회에서 커다란 센세이션을 불러일으킨 조선예술영화 ‘보증’이나 이 영화에 삽입된 시 <어머니>나 <용서하시라>를 통해 김정은 시기에 들어와서도 재활용하면서 체제결속을 유도하지만 현재는 그 효용성을 잃어가고 있다는 한계에 직면해있다.
Abstract
In this study, the brainwashing effects and limitations of North Korea's "Mother Party" were investigated through testimony from North Korean defectors through Kim Chul's poems "Mother" and "Forgive" inserted in the Joseon art film "Guarantee." Of the nine North Korean defectors who participated in the study, eight, excluding one from the Jangmadang generation, memorized more than 80% of the poem. When asked by the researcher whether he or she thought of being truly loyal to the Mother Party while reciting the poem, seven participants, excluding G and H who were the Jangmadang generation in the 1990s, testified, "At that time, I was truly loyal to the party and supposed it was natural to think so." However, G and H, the Jangmadang generation, responded to the same question that, "I didn't think the Mother Party was 100% right." Through the Joseon art film “Guarantee”, which caused a great sensation in North Korean society during the 1980s and 1990s, and the poems “Mother” and “Forgive” inserted in the film, North Korea strives to induce system solidification, even reusing them through the Kim Jong-un period, but is now facing limitations that it is losing its effectiveness.
